Our History

From Pension Helen to Residence Remi
Residence Remi ***

Our story begins in 1969, when our grandparents, Matthias and Helena, founded the Pension Helena. With dedication and an instinctive flair for hospitality, they created a place where guests felt welcome in a home away from home.

In 2008, their son Michael and his wife Johanna opened a new chapter. They took over the family business and transformed the small bed-and-breakfast into a modern holiday retreat. Eight comfortable holiday apartments were created, along with a cozy bar area and a small and cozy wellness area. Pension Helen became Residence Remi, named after us two siblings, René and Milena. And what has remained? The warm, family atmosphere and the belief that true hospitality is felt in the details.

Since 2025, the responsibility has been in René’s hands, leading Residence Remi into its third generation, with fresh ideas, new energy, and deep respect for everything our family has built.

Between Glacier and Valley
In Schnalstal, you can feel the mountains in every season. In summer, scenic trails lead to alpine pastures, across flowering meadows and forests up into the high Alps. In winter, snow, tranquility, and vastness characterize the valley: On the slopes, on ski tours, or on quiet winter trails, nature is waiting for you.

Summer Activities in Schnalstal Valley

From leisurely to challenging hikes, the Schnalstal offers a wide range of activities. Whether you're looking for challenging tours of the surrounding mountains, wildly romantic circuits around the turquoise-blue Vernagt reservoir, or a stroll along the Waalweg trail: This valley is full of surprises!

Circular Hike Around the Lake of Vernagt

A leisurely circular walk not far from the B&B Residence Remi leads along the shore of the reservoir. The path passes forests and meadows and crosses suspension bridges spanning gorges. You are accompanied by an impressive mountain panorama and the intensely turquoise shimmering water of the lake, which glows in ever-changing colors depending on the light.

A Walk On The Schröfwand Mountain

An incredible hike to the mountain next to our accommodation, called Schröfwand, starts in Vernagt. Once at the top, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the Vernagt reservoir and the entire Schnalstal Valley, as well as numerous mountain peaks in the Oetztal Alps. The tour starts at the parking lot by the lake and takes about 3.5 hours to complete, with a moderate level of difficulty.

Follow Ötzi’s Footsteps

Close to the site where Ötzi, the famous Iceman, was found, the Schnalstal Valley combines history and action. While those interested can learn more about Ötzi's discovery at the archeoParcopen-air archaeological museum, the Ötzi Rope Park high ropes course offers an active experience for families and adventure seekers.

Winter Activities in and around Unser Frau

Here you will ski on well-groomed slopes, enjoy snow-covered landscapes, and experience winter feelings you will never forget. Whether skiing, ski touring, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, or winter hiking: during the cold season, you can really let off steam.

Skiing on the Glacier – Alpin Arena Schnals

Just a ten-minute drive from Remi takes you to the Alpin Arena Schnals, which stretches from 2,000 to over 3,200 meters above sea level and combines high alpine nature with a wide range of sports and leisure activities. In summer, panoramic trails, via ferrata routes, and bike trails invite you to explore, while in winter, the glacier ski area is a popular meeting place for anyone who wants to burn off energy in the snow. Modern mountain railways provide convenient access to the impressive mountain world of the Ötztal Alps – without breaking a sweat.

Ski Touring Paradise Ötztal Alps

In the three-thousand-meter range, you can expect excellent snow conditions for ski tours that are suitable for all skill levels. The Weißkugel mountain is particularly popular, while two other destinations and bases for winter sports enthusiasts are the Similaun Hut and the Bella Vista Mountain Refuge. Safety first – please check the weather conditions and the current avalanche report for the province before every ski tour.

UNESCO World Heritage in Schnalstal

The Transhumance
Every late summer, the traditional sheep roundup is celebrated in the Schnalstal Valley. After months on the mountain pastures above the glacier, thousands of sheep return to the valley via the Alpine passes. This custom has existed for thousands of years and has been recognized by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage. Festively decorated animals, music, and regional specialties make transhumance an impressive testament to Alpine tradition.

A Trip to Merano

Those who miss the city life during their vacation, we recommend visiting Merano. The spa town is known for its characteristic arcades, the promenade along the river, and the thermal baths. In winter, it is worth visiting the Christmas market, and from spring to fall, the unique gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle.

On the day of arrival, your apartment is ready at about 2 p.m. On the day of your departure, please leave your apartment before 10:00 a.m.
Animals are accepted only upon request. Please note that we charge €10 per pet per day.
In addition to the final cleaning, we are happy to offer an extra cleaning service and a change of linens upon request.
  • For cancellations up to 31 days before arrival, no additional cancellation fees apply.
  • For cancellations within 30 to 15 days before arrival, a fee of 40% of the total booked amount will be charged.
  • For cancellations within 14 to 8 days before arrival, a fee of 60% of the total booked amount will be charged.
  • For cancellations within 7 days before arrival, a fee of 70% of the total booked amount will be charged.
  • For early departure, late arrival, or no-show, cancellation fees of 70% will be charged for the booked but not used days.
We recommend that our guests take out travel insurance.
At the booking, a down payment of 30% of the total booked amount is to be paid via bank transfer, which, in case of cancellation, will remain entirely at the accommodation. The remaining amount will be paid directly on-site.
There are special prices for children per day:
  • Children 0-3 years: € 14.00
  • Children 4-6 years: € 15.00
  • Children 7-13 years: € 20.00
  • Children from 14 years: € 25.00
